I grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, and earned my Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. I began my career in education with Dallas ISD in 2005 as an English teacher at Bryan Adams High School. Over the years, I have taught English at Irving High School, where I also served as the Color Guard Instructor, Woodrow Wilson High School, and Martin High School in Arlington. After 14 years teaching English and one year in Career and Technical Education, I joined Carter High School in 2025 as the Literacy Media Specialist.
In 2019, I began pursuing my Master of Science in Library Science and Educational Technology at Texas A&M University–Commerce, and I am excited to graduate this fall.
Books have been an important part of my life since I was young, but I also know that not every student considers themselves a “reader.” One of my favorite parts of being a librarian is helping students discover the book, topic, format, or genre that changes their mind. I believe there is a difference between being told you should enjoy reading and finding something you genuinely *want* to read, and I love helping students make that discovery.
Outside of school, I am a mom of three—one graduate student, one high school student, and one junior high student—and I share my home with four Australian Shepherds, all appropriately named after literary characters.
